I performed the same steps you did - removing the infamous white spacer and installing a Jardine Rumbler pipe, and noticed essentially the same things. No real quantifiable increase in power by removing the white spacer, only a substantial decrease in MPG. I then reinstalled the spacer, and the gas mileage remains lousy. Go figure.

BTW, I too noticed no colorizing in the Jardine pipe initially. Give it a thousand miles or so for it to start to turn color. Mine has over six thousand miles on it now and has turned a beautiful golden brown. At first, rubbing compund would restore it to its out-of-the-box state, but now it's as if it's anodized permanently that way. The sound I get out of the Jardine is worth every nickel I paid for it. They may not see me coming, but they sure hear me. Sort of provides an little extra margin of safety.
